This was inspired by my first trip to Italy in 1996. As I looked out through the sheer curtains one afternoon, I saw a woman across the courtyard come out and plunk down in her chair. Slowly, she put one hand on the railing and the other on her laundry. The image was seared into my brain. I had a painting as clear in my mind in 2000 as it was in 1996.
