About the Crane Beach Series

I lived in Newburyport, Rockport, Essex, and Ipswich for over 15 years.  Nearly every day I spent an hour or more walking the beaches of Plum Island (Parker River National Wildlife Refuge) or Crane Beach.  When the weather was too windy, I'd take refuge in the dunes on Crane Beach.  The years of familiarity were not unlike living with a person, experiencing their moods, changes, and always surprising.  But most of all, loving them no matter what happened.  My heart and soul were so much a part of this landscape that I never thought I could leave.  But that's another story.

This familiarity resulted in a series of paintings that are the essence of a complex and ever-changing place.  Though I have categorized a few as abstract, those who have been to Crane's Beach would immediately recognize the unique landscape, tidal pools, and aerial views of the river and marsh.
