Harp Player #2200222" x 30"Oil on Linen$6,000unframedReproduction at full size:$400This is a further take on the Harp Player. I liked the image and wanted to combine it with several other elements that were fascinating to me: the cobble stones in Lamole's square are placed in arched designs, one interlocking with another; the arched portico along the square; the colors of the night; and the expression of sound. I drew out many versions of this combination until I finally had a version I liked. There are so many layers to the painting that I lost count. The base layer is the black lines of the cobble stones. It was while I was walking on Plum Island on a windy day that I got the idea for the final touch. I was watching how the wind makes a rippling footprint on the dune grass and translated this into the small bright patterns in the painting that suggest sound. Without that, it had no depth. It took two years to complete this painting. |
