During my first trip to Italy I was in a small Tuscan town one night and found that there was to be a concert in the square. A harpist and flutist were on a simple stage with rows of folding chairs in front for the people. They played classical music while families with small children listened quietly. A full moon was high in the black sky. I was in heaven.

The similarity of the woman's shape and the harp transfixed me. I pulled out a scrap of paper and did a rough sketch of the harpist. It was another year before it became a painting.
