There is no way to describe the impact of the Grand Canyon. It was my first trip and I was movedmore than any place I have ever visited. When I returned, I did a few paintings from the drawings in my sketch book. Even the drawings were more an impression of how the shapes wove in and out of each other than the scale of the Grand Canyon.  This painting is from my imaginiation:  how would the earth look from above?

This one is done with the palette knife - taking paint on the knife and applying it to the painting rather than a brush. I rarely work in this way, but it seemed the only way to do it.
